Thursday tunes

Has it ever happened to you that you likes a song so much, even though you do not understand the complete meaning of it?
Well, this song is some what like it. This song has always been one of my favorite ones
One, for the golden voice of Lata,
For the feeling that emanates from this song,
and then, me being not so knowledgeable about the urdu words, I started searching for the meaning of individual lines.
and once I got that, I have fallen in love with song, all over again.

Listen to the song for yourself, and also read the meaning of the lines, if you did not know already:

and I found the most detailed meaning of this song on this blog:
http://the-obvious-subtlety.blogspot.com/2008/09/meaning-of-song-dikhayi-diye-yun-ke.html

I remember seeing this movie a very long time back, and it had some very sad ening. But now I want to watch it again.
So, what do you feel about the song?

Yaad Nahin

Found this in my collection of old CDs and instantly fell in love with this ghazal all over again.
So much so that it starts playing as soon as I get into the car and keeps playing till I am totally out of my car, with my stuff !!
Only Jagjit Singh could have done ultimate justice with these mesmerizing lyrics:

yaad nahi … yaad nahi
yaad nahi kya kya dhekha dha saare manzar bhool gaye(2)
Uski galiyom se jab loutte apna bhi ghar bhool gaye
yaad nahi … yaad nahi….

Khoob gaye pardhes ki apne dheevaaro dhar bhool gaye(2)
Sheeshmahal ne aisa ghera mitti ke ghar bhool gaye
Uski galiyom se jab loutte apna bhi ghar bhool gaye
yaad nahi … yaad nahi….

Thujhko bhi jab apni kasme apne vayade yaad nahi(2)
Hum bhi apne khaab theri aankhom mei rakh kar bhool gaye
Uski galiyom se jab loutte apna bhi ghar bhool gaye
yaad nahi … yaad nahi….

Mujhko jinhomne khathl kiya hai koyi unhei bathlaye nazir(2)
Meri laash ke pahloo mein wo apna khanjar bhool gaye
Uski galiyom se jab loutte apna bhi ghar bhool gaye
yaad nahi … yaad nahi….

Enjoy the song here, which I dedicate to one of my long lost friends, whom I got to speak during my last trip to India. Somehow, listening to this song brought back a lot of my memories.

Enjoy !!

Simple pleasures of the day

Sometimes simple, small things during the day are big enough to make your day worthwhile !! So much so, that you sleep with a smile on your face.

I woke up to find that my sweety li'l pie was much better now after a week long fever that he had (touch wood !!). After waking him up with my daily routine of hide and seek with him, we both got ready for office/school. Even after this long break, he didn't forget to do his little routine of "Jai jai bye bye pyaari kissi see you" to bhagwan jee in my little temple in the house. And then kissing mom a very sweet "Love you mumma !!"

After dropping him off, the way to my work is exactly 2 songs long (yes, that's the way I measure how far the place is). So the 2 songs that started my pleasant day are here: (My all time favorite hummable songs)

And this song from khushboo:(classic combo of Gulzar and RDB)

And then, the sweet topping on my day was watching my little guy playing and giggling with his best friend. They met each other as if they had met after decades.

Such days make me realize the importnce of what all I have ...
to cherish what is here today...
to enjoy what might change tomorrow..

Dil se..

My singing buddy

Did it ever happen to you in life that one thing which you really love to do and wanted to share it with someone close in your life, it turns out your better half has an exact opposite taste on that?
Well, it happened to me.

I just love music, and not just listening, but also humming along with it, or as Puja said in Lamhe "main ga kahan rahi thi, main to gungunaa rahi thi"
And S has totally opposite taste when it comes to music. In terms of choice of songs, on the level of volume at which I like to hear, everything. And if I try to hum the songs while they are playing, he can think of the all sorts of parodies for those songs just to tease me.

So when li'l A came in my life, as a part of my daily routine of putting him to bed, every night I used to sing him one of my favorite songs. And one of those songs has been "Halke halke aayee chalke" from Movie Apne Paraye.
What I never realized is, that over so many nights, hearing those songs over and over, A also picked up those songs. And a few weeks back, when I started singing the song for him, he started singing with me, in his sweet cute voice.
Ever since then, it has been our kind of daily routine. Every night, he'll pick up one of the songs he wants to sing.
So, now my li'l A is my new singing buddy.
And my day ends with a smile on my face..
Never realized such small things can bring so big happiness in life ...
dil se..

PS: Just in case you are interested, here's the song I mentioned. I just love this song, the way it was picturized on Shabana. I specially memorized the lyrics of this song, so I could sing it to A:

Music, music and music

Getting back to my blog after a long long time !!
Well things have been really busy for the last couple of weeks.

Anyways, so today I want to talk about music. Yeah, one big part of my life.
I just love music(Well, who doesn't :-)
But I am crazy about our typical Bollywood music.
I grew up listening to old Vivid Bharti in India. I remember, when I was growing up, I was so fond of the radio. I would listen to each and every song that aired on "Aap ki farmaish" in afternoon, "Chayageet" at night or "Jaimala" on Sunday afternoons. I even kept a log of what song was going on what rank on "Cibaca geet mala" by Ameen Sayani.

Seeing my craze for radio, my Dad got me a small pocket transistor, a red colored one. And I would keep it glued to my ears. Thankfully my grades in school were never bad, so my mom kind of protested, but she never pressed me real hard to give it up. But my li'l pocket transistor used to act as ransom for my sisters whenever I had a sibling fight with my sisters. In lieu of the batteries from that transistor, they could ask me to do anything and I just couldn't see myself missing even a single song!!

Then came the age of FM in India. Even that was good, but then it has more(actually lots) of talking and less of songs on that.

Anyways, when I moved here to States, one of the things I missed most was my radio. Yeah.... Internet radio, streaming music, everything is available but it's just THAT !!
So, when I got my iPod last year, I started collecting songs I loved most and missed. I now have a collection of about 700 such songs(And is being constantly updated)
So, every evening, when I am dead tired, from whole day of running around from home to son's school to work to back home, it's that music that soothes me. Sure it is not exactly "Vivid Bharti" but it does take me to the same old times, with me humming to those tunes.

Here's one of the songs from my ever favorite lists !! Evergreen song from the most beautiful voice !!

Enjoy !!
